Human Chain Cleanliness is both the state of being clean and free from germs, dirt, trash, or waste, and the habit of achieving and maintaining that state. Today, 32 staff including labourers joined their hands together near the Institute to raise the awareness in front of the public to demonstrate commitment to cleanliness and sanitation i.e Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. |

The focus was to clean the targeted areas where plastic bags and other wastes were identified previously. Under the campaign regular staff, contractual staff and labourers organized cleanliness drive to clear waste accumulated behind the institute pig and fish units and removed polythene bags that were blocking the drainage channels of the institute. A cultural fest was organized at KVK North Goa to promote the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ and raise awareness about cleanliness. College and school students, alongside officials, used folk songs, arts, and speeches to engage the public. Fifty-six participants from two institutions - National Skill Training Institute, Farmagudi, and RNM Government Higher Secondary School, Bino Vasco - actively participated. The event emphasized the harmful effects of polythene bags and urged citizens to view cleanliness as both a civic duty and moral responsibility. Participants-: 56

A Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir (Preventive Health Check-Up Camp) for housekeeping and sanitation workers was organised. Dr. Namrata Gauns Naik (MBBS), Authorized Medical Attendant of CCARI explained self-cleanliness and its importance in detail. At health check-up camp, Dr. Namrata examined all the Safai Mitra for blood pressure, blood sugar and body weight. The proper advice for improving the health condition was given to individuals based on their health parameters. Total 25 Safai Mitra participated in this this health check-up camp. |

Interactive Session on Access to Health Facilities and Services for Safai Mitras #SHS2024 |
An interactive session on access to Health Facilities and Services for Safai Mitras under #SHS2024 campaign was organised at ICAR CCARI on 27th September 2024. Shri Vinod Ubarhande (Farm Superintendent) coordinated the session and briefed all Safai Mitras about various health facilities including Institute clinic, ESI hospitals, GMC for availing the various treatment and medicine benefits. He emphasised on availing ESI hospital benefits as all are covered under health insurance for all kind of treatment and medicines. Dr. Namrata Naik Gauns (MBBS) urged all Safai Mitras to visit Institute clinic for health related issues and get the health parameter tested periodically. Shri Uday Giri, Supervisor from the Job Contractor, also extended all the assistance in case of availing ESI hospital facility for oneself or for dependents. Smt. Madina Sollapuri (ACTO) and Shri Datta Velip (Sr. Technician) assisted for conducting the programme. Total 35 Safai Mitras including housekeeping staff, sanitation and farm maintenance workers participated in this session and interacted with officials to get their doubts cleared. |

Distribution of Safety gear to Safai Mitras at ICAR-CCARI under #SHS 2024 |
To safeguard the sanitation and filed workers from occupational hazards, ICAR -CCARI provided various safety gears to sanitation and farm workers who are engaged in housekeeping, and various field works. This programme is conducted as a part of ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign. The safety gears like rubber gloves, masks, gum boots, the climbing equipment with safety cables for coconut climber, goggles for the brush cutting operator etc. distributed during this programme. All Safai Mitras are advised to use these items during their work for their safety. Information on available fire extinguisher in campus is also given to all participants.. Total 25 people including staff members participated in the programme. |

During the event, awareness was raised along with Mayem village panchayat public representative regarding various subsidy schemes for impoverished rural households, including initiatives for toilet construction, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana aimed at providing housing in urban areas, the Saubhagya scheme under PM Sahaj Bijili Har Ghar Yojana which ensures electrification for all willing households in urban as well as rural areas, and the PM Ujjawala Yojana that facilitates access to clean cooking fuel, such as LPG, for rural and excluded households, substituted traditional fuels like firewood. Ayushman Bharat health account facilitates seamless healthcare; Swachhta Udyami Yojana offers financial support for the procurement and operation of sanitation-related vehicles in public-private partnerships; PM Jan Dhan Yojana ensures access to financial services through banks; Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide 100% safe and adequate drinking water via individual household tap connections. Thirty participants attended this event, including a public representative from Mayem Village Panchayat. |

Shri Rahul Kulkarni ACTO briefed the chief guest on activities for Swatchatta conducted by the institute in past 15 days which were started from 17 th Sept 2024 & will continue upto 2 nd Oct 2024. Shri Vinod Ubarhande Farm Suprintendent & Nodal officer of Swatchatta Pakhwada explained the importance of Cleanliness also the theme for this year 'mind cleanliness'. Waste to Wealth Workshop for Awareness on Organic Farming #SHS2024 ICAR–CCARI, Goa, on 1st October, 2024, conducted a workshop on waste to wealth, demonstrating the management of biomass by recycling to create wealth through vermicomposting. A total of 115 participants, including 85 students of Sacred Heart High School, Verla, Bardez, Goa, 20 Safai Mitras from housekeeping and farm, and 10 staff members of CCARI and school teachers, attended the workshop. A complete demonstration on utilizing various biomass, including crop residues, plant leaves and branches, coconut fronds and shells, was showcased step-by-step to all participants for making vermicompost, an important component of organic farming. The importance of the "Reduce, Recycle and Reuse" principle was emphasized for a sustainable ecosystem. The ‘Biomass Recycling Unit’ of the Institute, along with its facilities, including a biomass shredder machine, vermicompost beds, and vermicompost sieving machine, were shown with a complete explanation of making vermicompost with identified species of earthworms. The workshop was organized and coordinated by Shri Vinod Ubarhande (Farm Superintendent), Shri Datta Velip (Sr. Technician), Shri Laxman Naik (Sr. Technician), and Shri Omkar Sawant (Young Professional-I) as part of the Swacchata Hi Sewa 2024 campaign. |

Felicitation of Safai Mitras on Occasion of Swachha Bharat Diwas #SHS2024 All housekeeping and sanitation workers of the Institute were felicitated by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director of ICAR CCARI Goa, on the occasion of Swachha Bharat Diwas #SHS2024, being celebrated across the country on 2nd October 2024. This felicitation aimed to express gratitude and motivate all sanitation workers for their invaluable contribution to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, ensuring the good health of all staff members. Dr. Parveen Kumar congratulated the entire ‘Mission Swachhata 365’ team for successfully conducting the #SHS2024 campaign. Shri Vinod Ubarhande, the Nodal Officer of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2024' campaign, briefed the gathering about various activities undertaken over the past two weeks. These included cleanliness drives at the Institute, surrounding public and tourist places, villages, and schools, as well as the cleaning of CTUs as part of the #SHS2024 initiative. A total of 25 people, including sanitation workers and office staff, were present during the program. The program was coordinated by Shri Vinod Ubarhande, Smt. Madina Sollapuri, Smt. Pranjali Wadekar, and Shri Datta Velip. |

As part of Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0, focused on cleanliness and reducing pendency in government offices, cleaning activities were carried out in the balcony area of the main office building of the Institute under the guidance of Smt. Madina S. Sollapuri (ACTO, Civil Engg.). The Horticulture, Animal Science and Fisheries sections were cleaned by removing waste materials, furniture and scrap. A tidy office environment not only looks better but also promotes health by reducing dust and other impurities, which can cause allergies and fire hazards. All scrap materials were safely disposed off. |

7. 11-10-2024 |
As part of the activity, participants pruned plants and trimmed shrubs around the boundary walls of the Institute campus. A total of 14 participants actively contributed to the event, ensuring the outdoor areas were well-maintained and presentable. The efforts of the participants helped reinforce the core values of cleanliness and sustainability promoted by the campaign. |

maintain cleanliness in the IPR room and its surroundings
1. IPR Room
Cleaning
i. Dusting and wiping of all surfaces, including desks, cabinets, and equipment

Cleaning and sanitization of the floor, windows, and high-contact
surfaces.

Surroundings Clean-Up:
i.
Removal of litter and debris from the area around the IPR room.
ii.
Sweeping and mopping of adjacent corridors and common spaces
iii.
Ensuring the area remains free of waste and hazards
The IPR room
and surrounding areas were thoroughly cleaned and organized. Staff
expressed greater awareness and commitment to maintaining
cleanliness. A cleaner and more conducive working environment was
achieved.

As part of
the Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0, our institute undertook an
initiative for the efficient disposal of scrap materials and
e-waste. The process of disposing 209 kgs of scrap and a number of
e-waste has been initiated.

Under Swachhta
Special Campaign 4.0, following activity was conducted on
17-10-2024:- As part of the Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0, a dedicated cleaning drive was conducted in 5 key labs: Soil Science Lab, Animal Science Lab, Horticulture Lab, Fishery Lab and labs at KVK(North Goa). The campaign aimed at enhancing cleanliness, promoting a hygienic work environment, and ensuring proper maintenance of lab facilities 1. Soil Science Lab • All workstations, shelves, and equipment were thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. • Lab chemicals were reorganized, and outdated or unused items were properly disposed of in accordance with safety guidelines • Waste management protocols were reviewed, ensuring proper disposal of soil and chemical residues 2. Animal Science Lab Animal enclosures and research areas were deep cleaned. Waste from animal research was handled following biosafety procedures, ensuring eco-friendly disposal 3. Fishery Lab • Aquatic tanks were cleaned, and water quality was checked to ensure no buildup of harmful materials Equipment used for fish handling and testing was sterilized Areas surrounding the lab were cleared of any waste, contributing to the overall hygiene of the environment. 4. Horticulture Lab • All workstations and plant growth areas were thoroughly cleaned. • Plant specimens and tools were organized, and any expired or unnecessary materials were disposed of. 5. Labs at ICAR - KVK, North Goa A cleaning drive was conducted to maintain cleanliness in the Central Soil Testing Laboratory, KVK Information and Technology Laboratory, Virgin Coconut Oil Laboratory, and Field Laboratory (Crop Science). • Dusting and wiping all surfaces, including desks, cabinets, glassware, and equipment Cleaning and sanitization of the floor, windows, and high-contact surfaces. This collective effort has significantly improved the cleanliness and functionality of these research facilities, contributing to the broader goals of the Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0. As part of
the Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0, a team consisting of 3
plumbers, a mason, and 3 helpers conducted maintenance activities
across office buildings, guest houses, and other facilities
located in Blocks A, B, and C of ICAR - CCARI, Goa.. The team
focused on identifying and repairing water leakages and issues
with the flush systems in these buildings. The inspections were
thorough, ensuring that all faulty plumbing systems were promptly
addressed. This initiative contributed to the overall cleanliness,
functionality, and hygiene of the facilities. The successful
completion of these tasks reinforces the commitment to maintaining
a clean and efficient work environment under the Swachhta Campaign
4.0

As part of
the Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0, a cleaning drive was
successfully conducted in the residential quarters area. The main
activities included:
(i)
Cleaning, weeding, and removal of wastes from the surroundings.
(ii) A
total of 7 staff members, including a tractor driver, participated
in the campaign.
(iii) The
surrounding and road areas of all residential quarters were
thoroughly cleaned.
This
initiative aimed at maintaining cleanliness and enhancing the
living conditions of the residents. The efforts of all
participants contributed significantly to the success of the
activity.

As part of
the Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0, a rally was organized from the
residential quarters of ICAR-CCARI to Old Goa. The event saw the
participation of 30 individuals, including officials and other
staff members, all committed to promoting cleanliness and raising
awareness about the importance of hygiene in public spaces.
Participants marched through the designated route, holding banners
and placards with messages emphasizing the significance of
cleanliness and the need for collective responsibility in
maintaining a clean environment. The rally concluded with a brief
address by key officials, who reiterated the government’s
commitment to the Swachh Bharat mission and encouraged everyone to
contribute towards achieving its goals. The event successfully
highlighted the community’s role in sustaining cleanliness and
inspired further actions towards a cleaner and healthier
environment in Goa.

As part of
the Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0, a cleaning activity was
organized outside the boundary walls of ICAR- CCARI Old Goa to
promote cleanliness and community involvement in collaboration
with the local panchayat.
Activities Undertaken:

of litter and debris along the boundary walls of the institute.
2. Clearing overgrown vegetation and maintaining pathways to enhance accessibility and aesthetics. 3. Disposal of waste materials in designated bins and waste disposal facilities. 4. Awareness-raising discussions with community members about the importance of cleanliness and waste management. The collaborative effort with the local panchayat not only improved the cleanliness and appearance of the area but also strengthened ties with the community. The activity encouraged a sense of shared responsibility for maintaining a clean environment. The Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0 Cleaning activity was a successful step toward promoting cleanliness and environmental stewardship. As part of
the Swachhta Special Campaign 4.0, an extensive cleaning drive was
conducted in the main building of the institute. The campaign
aimed to enhance cleanliness and hygiene across all workspaces,
creating a healthier and more organized environment for all
employees and visitors
Details of
the Cleaning Drive:
1. Offices: All offices underwent thorough cleaning, including dusting, removal of waste materials, and organization of workspaces. Officials ensured that desks, chairs, and cabinets were cleaned and arranged systematically. 2. Laboratories: Laboratories were sanitized, with all equipment, counters, and storage areas cleaned to maintain high standards of hygiene, crucial for ensuring a safe environment for experiments and research activities. 3. Corridors: Common areas, including corridors, were swept, mopped, and dusted. Efforts were made to keep passageways free of clutter to facilitate smooth movement and a visually pleasing environment.
The cleaning
was conducted by the respective officials of each department, who
ensured that the tasks were completed effectively. Each department
took responsibility for organizing and executing the cleaning
activities within their designated areas. The cleaning drive has
significantly improved the cleanliness and organization within the
main building. This effort underlines our commitment to the
Swachhta initiative, promoting a clean and healthy workplace.
