Animal Science & Fisheries Sciences

Research
  • Collection, cataloguing and utilization of the germplasm of livestock breeds (cattle, buffaloes, pig, goats, and poultry) for enhanced productivity and adaptability to coastal climatic conditions.

  • Develop region-specific feed and fodder systems, focusing on improving the nutritional quality of livestock feed to boost milk, meat, and egg production.

  • Research and implement best practices for the prevention and control of livestock diseases, including zoonotic diseases, ensuring animal health and productivity.

  • Promote sustainable animal husbandry practices, including organic livestock farming and integrated farming systems, to improve farm income while maintaining environmental balance.

  • Enhance poultry farming by improving breeding techniques, nutrition management, and disease control to increase poultry productivity and profitability for farmers.

  • Conduct research on sustainable fishing practices, aquaculture techniques, and management of fisheries in coastal ecosystems.

  • Focus on seed production, hatchery management, and breeding programs for important fish species, ensuring the availability of quality fingerlings for fish farmers.

  • Promote climate-resilient aquaculture practices that can withstand the adverse impacts of climate change on fisheries, such as fluctuating water temperatures and salinity.

  • Provide extension services, training programs, and field demonstrations to coastal fish farmers and fishermen to disseminate new technologies and sustainable practices.
