Prestigious Young Scientist Award during the 104th Indian Science Congress at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh during 3rd to 7th January, 2017

"Dr. Bappa Das, Scientist (Agricultural Meteorology) and Mr. Sreekanth G B, Scientist (Fisheries Resources Management) were awarded with Prestigious Young Scientist Award during the 104th Indian Science Congress at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh during 3rd to 7th January, 2017. Dr. Bappa Das was rewarded in the section of “Agriculture and Forestry Sciences” for his significant research work on “Evaluation of different uni-variate and multivariate techniques for water deficit stress phenotyping of rice through spectroscopy”. Mr. Sreekanth G B was honored in the section of “Animal, Veterinary and Fisheries Sciences” for his salient research contribution in assessing the fish assemblages on artificial fish habitats and natural reef patches along Goa, southwest coast of India using diver assisted underwater visual census. This prestigious annual award is given by the Indian Science Congress Association, Calcutta to encourage young scientists in various spectra of science (14 broad themes) including Agriculture and forestry sciences, Animal, veterinary and fisheries sciences, Anthropological sciences, Earth system sciences, Engineering sciences, Environmental sciences, ICT, Mathematical sciences, Material sciences, Medical sciences, New biology, Physical sciences and plant science. These awards carry a sum of Rs. 25,000/- besides a Certificate of Merit. The initial screening for this award will be purely based on the bio-data, research contributions in the past, research publications and the quality of the full length research paper submitted for the award. The final selection for this award will be based on the novelty of research, methodology followed, research content, field level suitability and the quality of presentation.
