World Soil Day celebrated at ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa
The ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa celebrated ‘’World Soil Day” on 5th December 2017. Shri. Govind Guade, Hon’ble Minister for Tribal Welfare, Art and Culture, Government of Goa, was the Chief Guest of the occasion and Dr. S. K. Singh, Director, ICAR – NBSSLUP, Nagpur, Maharashtra was guest of honour. Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CCARI in his welcome address, briefed on the importance of soil health and soil health cards. He also talked about the initiatives taken by the Institute and Krishi Vigyan Kendra in this regard. Shri. Govind Guade, advised all the farmers to get their soils tested and use manures and fertilizer in a balanced manner to maintain soil fertility and improve the crop yields. He urged the farmers to use the scientific technology for doing farming along with their wisdom. Dr. S.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-NBSS&LUP, Nagpur, addressed about different types of soil in Goa and methods to maintain the soil fertility by following soil health card recommendations. About 180 Soil health cards were distributed to the farmers to the farmers from different villages Sal, Pilgao, Keri, Surla and Priol. During the technical session, Dr. Gopal Mahajan, Scientist, ICAR-CCARI and Mr. Shashi Vishwakarma, Technical Officer, KVK, discussed in detail about soil health card its importance and use. The session also focused on nutrient deficiency – introduction and their identification at farm level. Mr. H.R.C. Prabhu, Program Coordinator, KVK, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was also attended by officials of Department of Agriculture, ATMA- North and SAMETI.
