ICAR-KVK, North Goa, celebrated World Food Day 2024
The ICAR-CCARI, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, organized World Food Day 2024 with Right to Foods for a Better Life and a Better Future at Chodan village, Tiswadi, Goa, on October 16, 2024. Dr Anurag Raizada, Director Charge of ICAR-CCARI, was the Chief Guest of the function. In his address, Dr. Raizada emphasized the importance of focusing on food quality rather than quantity, advocating for sustainable agricultural practices that can lead to healthier food systems. His insights reinforced the need for innovation and sustainability in agriculture to meet the population's nutritional needs without compromising environmental health. Dr N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK North Goa elaborated on the significance of including oilseeds and pulses in one's daily diet. He emphasized the nutritional benefits that these crops provide, including the presence of protein and fats, both are vital sources of energy and protein essential for a balanced human diet. Mr. Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), elaborated on the importance of balanced nutrition in daily meals. His insights focused on integrating various food groups to ensure that individuals and families receive adequate nutrients. Shri Rahul M. Kulkarni, ACTO, briefed on natural farming principles and the production of organic inputs. His expertise highlighted the benefits of sustainable farming practices that improve food quality and promote ecological balance. Shri Kulkarni’s engaging presentation inspired many attendees to consider natural farming a viable option for enhancing and conserving natural ecosystem. As part of the event, the millet recipe competition was organized to showcase millet's versatility and health benefits, often overlooked in modern diets. The event attracted 27 farmers, including 6 males and 21 females, fostering community engagement and awareness. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Rahul Kulkarni. The program was expertly coordinated by Mr. Rahul Kumar, Dr N. Bommayasamy, Dr. Sanjay Udharwar, Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati, who ensured a smooth flow of activities during the occasion.
