ICAR- CCARI, Goa celebrates World Food Day
On October 16, 2023, ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI) and ICAR- KVK-CCARI, North Goa commemorated World Food Day at Shri Jaganath Joshi Government Primary School in Sanqualim, Goa, with the main goal of emphasizing equal access to food, and water, promoting sustainable agricultural practises, and raising awareness about food-related issues. Mrs. Sulakshana Pramod Sawant, social worker, Goa was the Chief Guest of the function. In her inaugural address, she briefed the nutritional importance of millet in our daily consumption and its benefits in pre and post meal blood glucose level. She appealed mothers to replace junk food with traditional tasty food recipes with millets in an attractive, nutritious, and healthy form. She emphasized the importance of diet during pregnancy and lactation for creating a healthy future generation. Madam Sawant took a keen interest and personally visited all the millet recipes displayed in the competition. She also urged the gathering to have more and more millets consumption in their daily food intake. In addition to this, she also stressed residue-free food production through organic and natural farming practices, which preserve our ecosystem.
Dr N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK North Goa, briefed the gathering about food and nutritional security, sustainable food systems for balanced nutrition, and the importance of newly developed bio-fortified crop varieties in nutritional security. During the technical session, the participants were enlightened on balanced nutrition for a healthy life, nutri-cereals in human health, pulses and oilseeds in diet, and organic and natural farming practices for production of sustainable and eco-friendly food production by the team of experts from ICAR-KVK, North Goa namely Shri. HRC Prabhu, Dr Monica Suresh Singh and Shri. Rahul M. Kulkarni addressed the gathering. Seventy-five people participated and benefited from this event. The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Monica Suresh Singh, SMS (Agrl.Extn.); earlier, Shri HRC Prabhu, SMS (Plant Protection) welcomed the gathering. The programme was organized under the supervision and guidance of Dr Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa.
