ICAR-CCARI Goa celebrated International Women’s Day and conducted a training on value-addition in millets

ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, celebrated ‘International Womens Day’ on 09-03-2023. On occasion, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, talked about the theme - DigitAll: Innovation and technology for gender equality and stressed the development of gender-friendly technologies in agriculture and allied sector. Highlighting the paramount importance of women in all sectors, Bramhakumari Nirmala Behen enlightened the participants of the program on ‘Kushal Mahila Kushal Pariwar’. Mrs. Vishranti Surlakar, Sarpanch, Surla Panchayat, expressed her gratitude to ICAR-CCARI and KVK for all the efforts, activities, and demonstrations of different agricultural technologies improving the livelihood of the farm women in particular. Mr. H.R.C. Prabhu, Senior Scientist & Head Incharge, KVK, in his welcome address, briefed on the pivotal role of women for the betterment of society. Also, keeping in mind that 2023 is celebrated as ‘International Years of Millets’, a training cum demonstration of the value-added products of the millets was organized for the program participants. Mrs. Sunetra Talaulikar, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science), delivered a technical lecture on ‘Millet value addition and demonstration’ and coordinated the program. Along with the capacity building to farm women of Surla village,  inputs required for value-addition in millets were distributed under the Scheduled Tribe Component (STC) to the ST farm women. About 65 farm women from Surla village and the staff of the Institute attended the program.

Mrs. Sunetra Talaulikar, Subject Matter Specialist, who also coordinated the program, and Mr. Rahul M. Kulkarni, ACTO, proposed a vote of thanks, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati did the documentation.
