Training on Water harvesting, conservation, and its effective utilization

             Training on water harvesting, conservation, and its effective utilization organized at Mayem Gram Panchayat Hall in Bicholim taluka as part of the 100 days of activities by ICAR-CCARI, KVK, North Goa, on 19.08.2024. Mrs. Seema Saujay Aroudekar, Surpunch, Mayem village panchayat inaugurated the program as a chief guest. She expressed gratitude to the Director, ICAR-CCARI, and his entire team for delivering more beneficial training to the farming community of Mayem Gram Panchayat. She encouraged the farming community to incorporate the technical knowledge they had acquired during the program, as it is more advantageous for the preservation of our fragile ecosystem. Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK emphasized that land configuration techniques help to maximize rainfall infiltration, reducing erosion and total runoff, improving drainage, and ultimately enhancing water use efficiency. He urged the farmers to implement a land modification technique using raised and sunken bed systems in low-lying areas.  The use of ridges and furrows method effectively mitigate soil-related issues and enhance crop growth and yield in post rainy season. Mr Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), briefed that the efficient utilization of irrigation water through soil and crop management practices which is crucial for optimizing water resources, minimizing water loss, and maximizing crop productivity and crop intensity. Dr Sanjaykumar Udharwar, SMS (Animal Science), enlightened the significance of animal's care and management during monsoon and post-monsoon season. He emphasised that enhancing ventilation to protect the animals from wind and rain would strengthen their resilience against the disease. As part of the program, parthenium awareness week was observed and created awareness on health hazards and negative effect of parthenium and motivated the farming community to eradicate and management of obnoxious weeds of parthenium. Twenty-five farmers (20 males and five females) attended the training, including a public representative of the Mayem gram panchayat. The program was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Shishira,D. Dr. N.Bommayasamy, Dr. Sanjaykumar Udharwar, Mr. Rahul Kumar, and Ms. Shishira, D., coordinated the program.
