ICAR-CCARI, Goa conducted a poultry distribution cum awareness programme on scientific management of poultry under STC in Andhra Pradesh

 ICAR-CCARI conducted a poultry distribution cum awareness programme on scientific management of backyard poultry in the tribal villages of Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh during 3-4th March 2024 under the Scheduled Tribe Plan (TSP), Govt. of India, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Vizianagaram.

A total of 130 farmers and farm women belongs tribal communities like Konda Dora, Mukha Dhora, Savara, Jathapu and Gadaba who are associated with the Deeksha Mahila Welfare Association and Saphala Organisation participated in the programme. Dr. T. S. S. K. Patro, Programme Co-ordinator, KVK inaugurated the input distribution programme and urged the farmers to practice scientific poultry farming.

Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, SMS (Animal Science), demonstrated methods of azolla cultivation and created awareness of improved backyard poultry birds developed by ICAR and interacted with the participants to understand the field level challenges. Dr. Anu, G., Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) created awareness about scientific feeding, housing and other managemental practices of backyard poultry birds.  The participants were given one-month-old backyard poultry birds of Gramapriya, Srinidhi, Kadaknath and Vanaraja. A field visits to Manda, Rastakuntubai, Thotaguda, Gorada and Kondagangupudi villages were organised to monitor the poultry farm activities of the farmers. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), Co-Nodal Officer of the SCSP and Dr. R. Solomon Rajkumar, Senior Scientist and Nodal officer for Andhra Pradesh.
