ICAR-KVK, North Goa conducted training on Crop Diversification through Vegetable Farming
ICAR-KVK North Goa, ICAR-CCARI Goa successfully organized a
training program on Crop Diversification through Vegetable
Farming on November 27, 2024, at Chodan. The program was
attended by 43 participants, including 14 males and 29 females,
and was aimed at educating local farmers on the benefits of
incorporating vegetable farming into their agricultural
practices.
The Chief Guest for the event, Mr. Silvano Pereira, Sarpanch of Chodan Panchayat, emphasized the importance of vegetable farming for improving farmers' economic conditions. He highlighted those growing vegetables ensures a consistent source of income, offering farmers daily financial returns, which can significantly improve their overall economic stability. Additionally in the hands of chief guest two seed packets of Yard Long Bean were distributed to each participant.
Dr. Udharwar S.V., Senior Scientist and Head In-charge at ICAR-KVK North Goa, provided an insightful briefing on the program's objectives and shared an overview of the KVK's activities. He also delivered a lecture on the integration of animal components in crop diversification, explaining how combining crops with animal husbandry could enhance farm productivity and sustainability.
Mr. Rahul Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) at ICAR-KVK, North Goa, presented a detailed lecture on Enhancing Income and Sustainability through Vegetable Crop Diversification. He discussed various methods of diversifying crops to improve farm income and sustainability. Additionally, he provided an informative session on Organic Vegetable Production, educating farmers on the advantages of growing vegetables organically and its positive impact on both health and the environment.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Rahul Kumar, Dr. Udharwar S.V., Ms. Nivya K.R., Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati.
