Visit of Senior Under Secretaries to the Govt. of India and Workshop on Millets

 

    A group of thirty-eight (38) senior Under Secretaries of different departments of various Ministries, Govt. of India visited ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa on September 22, 2023.  The visit was a part of Level-E training programme of the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management (ISTM) under DoPT which is meant for the senior Under Secretaries working in the Central Secretariat and are due for promotion as Deputy Secretary.

    During their visit, the officers were guided through various research field units covering Natural Resource Management, Crop Improvement, Horticulture, Animal Science, and Fisheries sections. They were provided with detailed explanations of ICAR-CCARI accomplishments and the ongoing research and development projects undertaken by the Institute.

    Following the field visit, a workshop and interactive session were held, focusing on health and nutritional benefits of millets in the context of the global celebration of the International Year of Millets 2023. Dr. Parveen Kumar, the Director, delivered an extensive presentation on the role of millets in global nutritional security, climate adaptation, health, and prosperity, referred to as "Shree Anna." Participants engaged enthusiastically, seeking clarification on various aspects of millet production, consumption, and their health benefits. He also presented an overview of the 75-year glorious journey of Indian Agriculture, highlighting the current state of Indian Agriculture with supporting data.

    Participants expressed their gratitude for the institutional visit and the insightful workshop. Dr. Manohara K. K., Senior Scientist (GPB), and Shri Vinod A. Ubarhande, ACTO (Farm Superintendent), played key roles as coordinators for this significant visit and workshop.
