TSP Sponsored Training Programme On “Improved Methods For Nursery Production And Cultivation Of Vegetable, Flower And Fruit Crops Cultivation ”  For Small And Marginal Tribal Farmers Of Goa

A training program on “Improved Methods for nursery production and cultivation of vegetable, flower and fruit crops cultivation” under Tribal Sub plan funded project on “Naturally ventilated greenhouse for seedling production and crop cultivation for providing livelihood opportunities for Tribal of Goa” was conducted on June 18, 2014 at temple hall of Malcoponwado, Malkarne, QuepemTalukaGoa by the Project Investigator, Dr. Mathala Juliet Gupta and the Project Co-. Investigator, Dr. M. Thangam. A total of 29 farmers of various Self Help groups of Macopon and Malkarne attended the same

The training was initiated with an introductory address by the local coordinator and facilitator, Mrs. Achal Malik, KisanMitra of Quepem Taluka, who introduced the ICAR team to the trainees. The training coordinator Dr. Mathala Juliet Gupta, then formally invited all the participants and trainers to the training program with an introduction about the Tribal Sup Plan Program of ICAR Research Complex for Goa and the work done under the Project in Malkarne village. She also gave a brief outline of the schedule of training program, its objectives and purpose and introduced the speakers. She urged the trainees to use the opportunity to update their knowledge and adopt the improved methods to diversify their cropping pattern and enhance their livelihood.

This was followed by lectures and hands-on training by various speakers as per the below given schedule:

The lectures were followed by feedback from trainees. Then hybrid seeds worth  ` 1,26,610/-were distributed to all the trainees and Dr. Thangam also instructed them as to how to raise nursery using the seeds and cultivate them. Then Rs. 1,56,253/- worth inputs viz. Chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, coco-peat, micronutrients, tricoderma powder, portrays (20), polybags for seedlings (10 sets each), rose can (10), plastic pots (10), plastic buckets (10) and taslas (10), spades(10), pick-axes (10), vermin-compost kits – with silpaulin and shadenets (10 sets), Silpaulin -10 m were given to members of the MaaGayatri Self Help Group of Mlacoponwado, Malkarne,  Quepem Taluka. Dr. Thangam explained the use of each chemical input and its dosage, time and type of application etc.

The training ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Mathala Juliet Gupta, training coordinator.
