Interaction with farmers on integrated fish farming at Thrissur, Kerala
An interaction was organized with the farmers on integrated fish farming at Thrissur coastal district, Kerala on 28 September 2024. A total of 60 farmers (25 women) practicing paddy, coconut, livestock and fish farming were presented in the programme which was arranged by ATMA and Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Kerala. The farmers were sensitized on various crop and livestock based fish farming systems and the additional income and livelihood generation through IFS approach. The farmers expressed their interest in taking up paddy cum fish cultivation and incorporating suitable fish species for farming in paddy fields. Thus, the possibility of stocking 1) murrel, an air breathing fish species and 2) grass carp, a weed controlling fish species was discussed and package of practices for the farming was provided. Dr Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist (FRM), ICAR-CCARI assured all the technical support to farmers for the integrated fish farming activities in the region.
