Awareness cum demonstration programme on ornamental fish culture at Sneharam Special School, Manalur, Thrissur

            An awareness programme on ornamental fish culture was organised for the staff and differently abled students of the Sneharam Special School, Manalur, Thrissur coastal district in Kerala on 19 July 2024. Dr Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist from ICAR-CCARI interacted with the students of the special school and encouraged them for fish culture initiatives using songs, and discussions. To create interest in the ornamental fish farming as a livelihood option for the students, a small scale unit was established at the school premises. The stocking of fish, aquatic plants and feeding were carried out with the help of the students and a group of four students were given the responsibility of monitoring the fish tank. Sister Fasany, Head of the Sneharam Special School expressed her sincere gratitude towards ICAR-CCARI for such a great and divine initiative. Fishermen friends from Venkitangu Inland Fishermen Society (a scheduled caste fisherman society in Thrissur district) has also actively participated in the programme and ensured all support to ICAR-CCARI and the school for such programmes.  Dr Sreekanth GB, Shri Trivesh Mayekar- Scientist (Fish genetics and breeding)) and Mr. Melbin Lal (YP 2) coordinated the programme.
