ICAR-KVK, CCARI, North Goa organized training on rice farming under TDC-NICRA in Khazan lands of Goa

     ICAR-KVK, CCARI, North Goa organized training on rice farming in Khazan land (in coastal saline soils) and distributed critical inputs at Mayam village under TDC-NICRA on 06-06-2024. Dr N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, North Goa, provided a comprehensive overview of the significance of drum seeder for direct sowing rice and concurrently growing rice cum dhaincha, green manure, green leaf manure, treating seeds and seedlings with biofertilizers and bio-control agents, using organic manure and bio-fertilizers to maintain soil health and productivity, managing pests and diseases with bio-pesticides and bio-fungicides, and implementing weed management practices for rice farming in Khazan lands. Mr. Rahul Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), briefed the comprehensive details on the procedures involved in healthy and robust rice seedling production, nursery nutrient management, and both manual and mechanical methods for transplanting rice. Ms. Shishira, Senior Research Fellow, TDC-NICRA, gave a detailed explanation and hands-on demonstration of seed treatment using bio-control agents. At this event, improved high-yielding rice variety and bioformulation developed especially for Khazan land, namely Goa dhan-4 and Goa Bio-1, respectively were distributed to ten farmers and farm women of NICRA-adopted village.
