Exposure visit of students from College of Fisheries, Payyannur, Kerala

    A group of 38 bachelor of fisheries science (BFSc.) students (28 female, 10 male) along with two assistant professors (Dr Prabhakaran MP and Dr Praisy M Shaju) from College of Fisheries, Payyannur, Kannur coastal district, Kerala visited the institute on 21 January 2025. They were exposed to different units of the institute such paddy fields, rice and coconut based integrated farming systems, mango, cashew, fisheries, livestock, biogas, value added product unit from cow dung, vermicompost, jeevamrut, and waste water treatment facility. Dr Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist (FRM), ICAR-CCARI interacted with the students and explained the technologies developed by the institute to improve and manage the coastal fisheries sector. Shri Trivesh Mayekar, Scientist (FRM) sensitized about the ornamental fisheries sector, breeding and seed production of the indigenous ornamental fishes and seabass polyculture. Shri. Manish Patel, Technician, Natural Resource Management section interacted with the team and explained the working of biogas and cow dung value addition and waste water treatment units. The students and teachers appreciated the research and extension activities and expressed their interest in associating with the institute for seabass polyculture, crab and mussel farming, duck cum fish cage culture, and ornamental fish culture at Payyannur. Dr Sreekanth GB, Shri Trivesh Mayekar (Scientists from CCARI) and Shri Omkar Sawant, (Young Professional) coordinated the programme.
