ICAR- CCARI, Goa organized three days “National symposium on Self-Reliant Coastal Agriculture-2022” @ AKAM
ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa and Association for Coastal Agricultural Research (ACAR) organized three days “National Symposium on Self-Reliant Coastal Agriculture” during 11-13 May, 2022 under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Hon’ble Deputy Director General (NRM), ICAR, New Delhi Chaired the valedictory session. In his address, he appreciated the Institute's efforts in successfully organizing the national symposium. He emphasised the need to identify and prioritize researchable issues in the field of animal science, fisheries and horticulture to develop climate-resilient technologies for self-reliant coastal agriculture. He further spoke about the importance of secondary agriculture and agro-ecotourism in boosting farmers’ income. Dr. S.K. Pandey, Former Director, ICAR-CPRI, Shimla was the Co-Chairman of the session and he appreciated the deliberations and knowledge generated during different technical sessions. He further emphasised that the rich biodiversity in the coastal regions is under serious threat and needs appropriate measures for its conservation. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI welcomed the guests and gave a brief remark about the three days symposium. During the three days national symposium, two keynote addresses, sixteen lead lectures and several oral and poster papers were presented in seven technical sessions under different themes. The scientific deliberations during the national symposium have put forward many recommendations which will sensitize the system and act as a road map for developing research priorities and sustainable development policies in the coastal region. Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari inaugurated the Agri-Business Incubation (ABI) Center of ICAR-CCARI, Goa and launched its website. He also inaugurated the Agro-ecotourism Hut established at the Institute. The valedictory function was attended by around 100 participants physically and 50 participants virtually including scientists, farmers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders across the country. Dr. Manohara K. K., Senior Scientist, (Genetics & Plant Breeding) and Co-Organizing Secretary of the symposium proposed the vote of thanks and Dr. Maneesha S. R., Scientist (Fruit Science) compered the programme.
