Special Technical Session on Sustainable Coastal Agriculture at ICAR-CCARI
A special technical session on Sustainable Coastal Agriculture was organized as part of the National Seminar on Technological Innovations for Transforming Agriculture: The Role of Agrophysics organized by ACAR and ISAP at ICAR-CCARI, Goa, on 24th January 2025. The session brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss critical issues, challenges, and innovative strategies for enhancing agricultural sustainability in coastal regions. The session was chaired by Dr. N. P. Singh, Former Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, and co-chaired by Shri. Sandeep Foldessai, Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Govt. of Goa. Dr. Anurag Raizada, Principal Scientist (Agroforestry), served as the convener. The lead lecture on Building Climate Resilience Through Sustainable Coastal Agriculture was delivered by Dr. Arjamadutta Sarangi, Director, ICAR-IIWM, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. The session featured insightful discussions on climate resilience, soil and water management, land reclamation techniques, and the role of remote sensing in monitoring abiotic stresses. The integration of agroecotourism and capacity-building initiatives was also highlighted as a means to enhance climate resilience and community engagement. Additionally, coastal fisheries management was discussed, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and policy interventions. Key recommendations from the session included adopting land shaping techniques, promoting integrated farming systems, leveraging remote sensing technologies, and strengthening farmer capacity-building initiatives to ensure long-term sustainability and productivity in coastal agriculture. The session was attended by stakeholders from various sectors relevant to coastal agriculture.
