Sustainable Soil Health Management and Input Distribution Programme by KVK, CCARI, Goa

ICAR-KVK, CCARI, North Goa, conducted a program on sustainable soil health management through organic farming in Cumbharjua village on September 26, 2024. Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK North Goa, emphasized the importance of organic farming practices, highlighting how crop rotation enhances soil biodiversity, improves fertility, and reduces soil erosion, pests, and weeds. He encouraged farmers to avoid synthetic fertilizers and pesticides due to their detrimental effects on the environment.

 

    Dr. Udharwar S.V., SMS (Animal Science), discussed the integration of animals in organic farming and effective use of animal waste. Mr. Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), covered the benefits of green manuring for soil health, while Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, ACTO (Agronomy), addressed various sources of organic manures and bio-fertilizers that enhance soil structure and water retention. As part of Krishak Swarn Samruddhi Week, KVK also distributed farm implements, including pickaxes and spades, to 52 scheduled tribe farmers and farm women. The program was coordinated by Dr. Bommayasamy, Dr. Udharwar, Mr. Kumar, Mr. Kulkarni, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati.
