Field visit to seabass cage culture unit at Curtorim, Goa
A filed visit cum monitoring of the cage fish farm activities at Curtorim was carried out on 5 August 2024. This was a follow-up visit based on the request received from the farmers regarding the reduced feed intake of fish and growth of aquatic macrophytes within the cage unit. The site was inspected and the advisories were given. The net covering was suggested around the cages to prevent the entry of macrophytes. It is also advised to revise the feeding rate into three splits from the current practice of two splits in a day. The crab fattening units developed at the institute were also distributed to farmers for trails in the upcoming postmonsoon season. It is also assured that efforts will be made to register the copyright/design for the traditional fishing trap operated by the farmers in the region for intellectual property protection. The farming of pearlspot, red snapper and crab were also discussed and suggested to take up in the post-monsoon season.
