ICAR-CCARI organized a field day cum-farmer interaction and distribution of fishing nets under SCSP
A field day cum farmer’s interaction was organized by ICAR-CCARI on February 28, 2024, at Betqui village in Ponda Taluka, South Goa, under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan, Government of India. A total of 15 beneficiaries attended the program and actively participated in the deliberations. Dr. Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist (Fisheries Resources Management), and Shri. Trivesh Suresh Mayekar (Fish Genetics & Breeding) interacted with the fishers in the region and discussed about the current challenges in fishing and marketing. During the meeting, issues pertaining to fishing and farming and also the current decline of fish populations in the rivers of Goa were discussed. Fishing nets were distributed to the beneficiaries during the function. The scientists urged the continuous technical support in fisheries activities especially for the collection of fish brooders and fish seeds from the rivers and estuaries of Goa with the local community of Betqui village. The fishermen assured their whole-hearted co-operation for the research and development activities of ICAR-CCARI.
