ICAR-CCARI presented on millets at the 51st State Level Science Exhibition, Maharashtra
ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, participated and presented at the 51st State Level Student Scientist Science Exhibition 2023-24 (५१वे राज्यस्तरीय बाल वैज्ञानिक विज्ञान प्रदर्शन सन २०२३-२४) on 12 February 2024. The 3-day (14-16 February 2024) event was organized was NCERT, New Delhi, SARAL, Government of Maharashtra, SCERT, Pune, and YBI School Maharashtra, at Sawantwadi, Maharashtra. The exhibition was inaugurated by Hon’ble Shri. Eknath Shinde, Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
On the occasion, an invited scientific talk on Millets: An unique nutritious food (भरड धान्य (श्री अन्न) एक उत्कृष्ठ पौष्टिक अन्न) was delivered by, Dr. Gopal Mahajan, Sr. Scientist and Shri Vinod Ananda Ubarhande, ACTO (FS), ICAR-CCARI, Goa. Through the talk, the participants were sensitized for the general awareness of millet and its consumption and their health benefits. It was highlighted ‘how millets and certain crops are for the uncertain future’ due to their climate resilience. ICAR-CCARI is creating awareness and promoting the production and consumption of millet through a series of lectures, talks, capacity-building programs, and demonstrations in the field. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, guided and supported the team in raising awareness on millets at the exhibition. The participants of the exhibition were 19 schools from each of >35 districts of Maharashtra with more than 1200 students and teachers attending physically. The live streaming of the scientific talk reached >15000 viewers. The exhibition was visited by > 4000 visitors per day.
