 Visit of specially abled (deaf and speech-impaired) students to ICAR-CCARI, Goa

 

A batch of specially abled, deaf and speech-impaired students, from Sanjay Centre for Special Education, Porvorim, Goa visited ICAR Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute on 28.07.2023 on an educational tour. Total thirteen students including seven girls and six boys students along with three coordinators of these special students participated in the interactive session with the Director of Institute and other staff members. These students are briefed with the various research activities ICAR CCARI undertaking for the farmers’ welfare in the coastal region of the country. The farm visits to various units viz. Dairy unit, Fisheries, Poultry, Piggery and Horticultural fields was conducted to showcase the Institute’s activities which were very surprising for these special guests. Smt. Benedicta Miranda, one of the coordinating teacher, interpreted all the conversation in a sign language to these deaf and speech-impaired students for more clarity. The information given and all conversations were warmly welcomed by these special students by waving their hands in air with smile, number of times. 

The Director, Dr. Parveen Kumar shared the role of ICCAR CCARI for well-being of coastal farmers. He conveyed his feelings with these students and said it is crucial for society to recognize the potential and value of these children and to break down barriers that may limit their opportunities. By promoting inclusivity, providing appropriate resources, and celebrating their unique abilities, we can ensure that deaf and speech-impaired children can lead enriched lives and contribute meaningfully to the world around them. He, also, wished all the very best to all students and assured any further support in the knowledge sharing regarding coastal agriculture with these special students.
