ICAR-CCARI organised a field day on cashew stem and root borer management

    ICAR-CCARI, Goa organised a field day on cashew stem and root borer management at Old Vaddem, Sanguem on 14th March, 2024. Dr. Maruthadurai, R, Senior Scientist (Agricultural Entomology), Mr. Sitaram (Skilled Supporting Staff), Mr. Sarvesh Raghunath Deikar (Project Assistant) along with 15 farmers were participated in the programme. Dr. Maruthadurai briefed about the damage caused by cashew stem and root borer, diagnosis at the early stage, damage symptoms, mechanical removal of grubs, prophylactic and curative management of cashew stem and root borers. He also further stressed on the importance of the removal of dead trees or trees beyond the recovery due to stem borer attack from the cashew plantations. A practical demonstration was conducted on identification of cashew stem borer affected tress, identification of grubs, mechanical removal of grubs and drenching of insecticides fipronil 2ml/ litre of water or Imidacloprid 2ml/litre of water. All the technical details on integrated management cashew insect pests, questions and concerns of farmers on insect pest management were addressed in the meeting. Further, a field guide on identification and management of cashew insect pests were distributed the farmers.
