Prof. (Dr.) Ram Krishna Pal, Director, National Research Centre on Pomegranate, Solapur, Maharashtra, visited this institute and delivered a guest lecture on ‘Post harvest management and Value Addition in Horticultural Crops’ on 03.06.16 at 11 am. He talked on the basics of post harvest losses and the significance in minimizing them, by various eco-friendly ways. He illustrated simple storage and processing technologies for fruits and vegetables. He also emphasized upon the importance of Pomegranate, its nutritive value and its significance as a health crop and threw light on modern value added products of pomegranate like virgin seed oil, bicolour etc.
The lecture was received with appreciable response from the staff, which was evident from the interactive session that followed. The guest speaker was honoured and felicitated by Dr. N.P.Singh, Director of the institute. Dr. Mrs.) S.Priya Devi, Senior Scientist (Horticulture) co-ordinated the programme. After the talk, Dr. R.K.Pal was taken around the laboratories and fields of Horticulture section by Horticulture Scientists of the institute viz., Dr. V.Arunachalam, Dr. M.Thangam, Dr.(Mrs.) S.Priya Devi and Ms. Manisha,S,R, wherein productive interaction took place.
