ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized first meeting of 5th QRT (2018-22)

    The first meeting of the 5th Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) of ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, was held on 8-9 January 2024 to review Institute activities and performance for the period 2018 to 2022. The meeting was chaired by Dr. M. B. Chetti, Vice Chancellor, Sanskriti University, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh and attended by the QRT members, Dr. M. R. Dinesh, Former Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru, Dr. K. K. Singh, Dean, Sankskriti University, Mathura, Dr. P. Pravin, Former ADG (Marine Fisheries), ICAR, Dr. Ashalatha K.V., Professor & Head Department of Agricultural Statistics, CoA, UAS, Dharwad, Karnataka. Dr. A. R. Desai, Retired Pr. Scientist (Horticulture), ICAR-CCARI was the special invitee for the meeting. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa and Dr. Gopal Mahajan, Member Secretary, QRT and the team of ICAR-CCARI staff organized the meeting as per the guidance of Hon’ble QRT.

    A brief presentation on the salient research achievements of Institute for the five years (2018-22) was delivered by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa. It was then followed by Action Taken Report on recommendations of the previous QRT (2013-18) was presented by Member Secretary, QRT. The research achievements and newer initiatives of previous five years and roadmap for future was presented by the respective Section In-Charges of NRM, Crop Science, Horticulture and Animal and Fishery Sciences. Dr. A. R. Desai, Retired Pr. Scientist (Horticulture), presented the research achievements of last five years on various horticultural crops, value addition, ToT activities, etc. The meeting also features special presentations on Agro-Eco Tourism (AET) and AGNI Agro-Business Incubation (ABI) Centre by Dr. R. Solomon Rajkumar, Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU) by Dr. Shripad Bhat, Scheduled Tribe Component (STC) by Dr. Paramesha V., Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) by Dr. Sreekanth GB, Administration and finance by FAO & AO and Eco-friendly initiatives by Institute and KVK by Sh. Vinod Ubarhande. During the meeting a visit to all the experimental farms (Block A, B and C), infrastructures and different units was also organized.

    The QRT reviewed the activities presented and suggested documentation of the achievements through publications and videos, copyrighting and patenting of products & processes, linking biodiversity to livelihood, enhancing collaborations and networking with other organizations and SAUs, impact assessment of technologies and extensions, etc. The review of Institute will be continued in subsequent meetings of QRT and the recommendations for next five years will be compiled in a form of report.

The scientists, technical, administrative staff of Institute, Sr. Scientist cum Head and SMSs, KVK, project staff, etc. attended the meeting. The vote of thanks was proposed by Member Secretary.
