ICAR-CCARI, Goa conducted a capacity-building programme on the scientific Management of poultry at Puducherry
ICAR-CCARI held a one-day training on 'Scientific management of poultry' on 1st March 2024 under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP), Govt. of India, in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (RIVER), Govt. of Puducherry. A total of 20 women farmers participated in the programme. Dr. V. Sejian, Dean, RIVER, Puducherry inaugurated the training programme and urged the farm women to practise scientific poultry farming. Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, SMS (Animal Science) demonstrated methods of silage cultivation and interacted with the participants to understand the field-level challenges. Dr. M. Rajalakshmi, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Veterinary Extension delivered lectures on the scientific management of chicks, growers and layers. The participants were also given day-old chicks of Giriraja, a dual-type birds and starter feed. A field visit was organised to monitor the farm activities of the farmer participants. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) & Co-Nodal Officer of the SCSP and Dr. R. Solomon Rajkumar, Senior Scientist and Nodal Officer (Puducherry), Dr. K. Natchimuthu, Prof. & Head, Veterinary Extension and Dr. S.Venugopal, Prof. & Head, Livestock Farm Complex.
