ICAR Goa Organized PPV & FRA at Gaodongri Village, Canacona.

 

          A farmer’s training-cum-awareness programme on the ‘Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act 2001’ was organized by ICAR Research Complex for Goa on 27th March, 2014 at Panchayat Hall, Gaodongri Village, South Goa. 

          Team of Scientists from ICAR viz., Dr. V. Arunachalam, Dr. A. R. Desai and Dr. Manohara, K. K., delivered lectures during the training programme.  Speakers highlighted the vast amount of plant genetic diversity existing in the State and their potential uses.  They appreciated the role of farmers in conserving the unique materials.  They also emphasized the importance of conserving these germplasm, and their future benefits.

          The procedures for registration of farmers’ varieties were explained in detail to protect the farmers’ rights.  Farmers were also briefed about the various award/rewards available through PPV&FRA for their contribution in conserving the genetic materials.   

About 100 farmers mostly farm women gathered in the training programme.
