 Training-cum-Awareness Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act, 2001

 

            A farmer’s training-cum-awareness programme on the ‘Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act 2001’ was organized by ICAR Research Complex for on 25th March, 2014.

          The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. N. D. Jambhale, Ex. ADG (Seeds), ICAR New Delhi.  Shri P. Tufani, Director, Dept of Agriculture was the Guest of Honour.  Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh, Director, ICAR Research Complex for Goa presided over the function. 

          In his address, Dr. N. D. Jambhale, emphasized the importance of the act, its genesis and the various provisions available for farmers under the act.  Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh, Director, ICAR Goa, appreciated the role of farmers in cultivating, conserving, developing and selecting varieties. 

          In the technical session, general awareness on PPV & FRA and its provision and the germplasm resources of important fruit crop was covered by Dr. A. R. Desai, Senior Scientist (Horticulture); vegetable crop by Dr. M. Tangam, Senior Scientist (Horticulture); Coconut and other plantation crops by Dr. V. Arunachalam, Principal Scientist (Horticulture); flower crops by Dr. S. A. Safeena, Scientist (Horticulture) and the genetic resources of rice was covered by Dr. Manohara, K. K.,  Scientist (Plant Breeding)

          About 100 participants including farmers, line department officers and KVK personnel participated in the programme.  Dr. Manohara, K. K., Scientist in Plant breeding who organized the training programme proposed the vote of thanks.
