“Skill Development and Poultry Entrepreneurship” Training cum Demonstration conducted at ICAR-CCARI, Goa under NABARD sponsored Project

    A two days training cum demonstration programme on “Skill development and poultry entrepreneurship” was conducted at ICAR-CCARI, Goa under a NABARD funded project during 12-13th February 2024. The training was attended by 29 farmers from Goa including eight women participants. In his inaugural address, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director emphasized on the importance of skill development and poultry entrepreneurship programme for farmers and youth of Goa. He also interacted with the trainees about their expectations from the training and urge them for co-learning. The programme consisted of five lectures on different aspects of poultry farming. Three practical demonstrations were conducted including preparation of feed and phytogenic feed additives, vaccination and biosecurity and breeding methods. Dr. Amiya R. Sahu, Scientist (Animal Genetics and Breeding) explained about the different breeds of poultry, their important characteristic features and breeding strategies. Dr. Susitha Rajkumar briefed about avian health care management. Practical demonstrations were conducted on vaccinations, biosecurity measures, sexing of birds and litter management by Dr. Shirish Narnaware and Dr. V. Prasastha. Practical demonstrations were also given on economic feeding of backyard poultry and preparation of feed by Dr Nibedita Nayak and Dr. Sanjay Udharwar. Dr. Gokuldas P.P. delivered a lecture on semen collection and artificial insemination in poultry. There was an interactive session among the trainees with the scientists which was followed by feedback from the trainees. The training was coordinated by Dr. Nibedita Nayak, Dr. Shirish Narnaware and Dr. Amiya Ranjan Sahu. Technical assistance was rendered by Mrs. Pranjali Wadekar, Mr. Narayan, Mr. Siddhesh and Miss Tejaswi.
