ICAR-CCARI Goa celebrated ‘World Pulse Day’ @ Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav (India75)

    ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa and ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra – North Goa celebrated ‘World Pulse Day’ on 10th February 2022 at Parra village of Bardez Block of State of Goa under Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav (India75) in commemoration of the 75th year of independence. The rice-fallows and availability of the residual soil moisture provide abundant scope for promoting pulse cultivation in the State of Goa. Keeping this in mind, the institute has been actively undertaking the transfer of technologies to promote advanced pulse production technologies. On the occasion. Shri. H R C Prabhu, Senior Scientist and Head I/C enlightened the farmers about the importance of celebrating World Pulsed Day. He briefed about the biological nitrogen fixation by legumes and pulses and its usefulness in reducing the use of fertilizers. He emphasized on increasing the pulse production and productivity in Goa to make the state self-sufficient and reliant with respect to pulses. Smt. Sunetra Talaulikar, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science) spoke about the role of pulses in achieving nutritional security, especially in women and children. Dr. Monica Singh, Subject Matter Specialist (Agril. Extension) welcomed the farmers and highlighted the theme of the programme and the importance of pulses cultivation in the cropping system. Shri. Chandrahas Halmalkar, President, Parra Farmers Club thanked KVK for their efforts in promoting pulse production in the village through the supply of quality seeds and information and demonstration on best management practices. The programme was attended by 39 farmers.
