ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized training program on “Scientific Livestock Farming for Sustainable Livelihood”

 

    A three days training programme on “Scientific Livestock Farming for Sustainable Livelihood” under PMKSY WDC 2.0 watershed project was organized by ICAR-CCARI, Goa from 20-22 December, 2023 at ICAR-CCARI campus. The program was meticulously organized as an integral component of capacity building within the framework of the PMKSY-WDC 2.0 project. Fifty farmers from Priol, Veling, Keri, Cuncoliem and Madkai villages of Ponda taluka participated in this program. The training program encompassed a blend of instructive theoretical lectures, informative practical field visits, and insightful field demonstrations facilitated by scientists and the project team of ICAR-CCARI, Goa. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa handed over the certificates to the trainees during the valedictory program. The Director during his speech urged all the farmers to share the knowledge gained from this 3 days training program with other farmers of the watershed and motivated them to work in participatory mode for successful implementation of watershed project in Ponda block.

    The training coordination and convening responsibilities were handled by Dr. Sujeet Desai (PI - Watershed Project), Dr. A. Raizada, Dr. Shirish D. Narnaware, and Dr. Gokuldas PP. Dr. Sujeet Desai provided a comprehensive overview of the training program's objectives and guided the proceedings over the course of three days, Dr. Shirish D. Narnaware delivered a lecture on Scope and Importance of Animal husbandry in coastal region and the diseases associated with those and their management. Dr Gokuldas PP discussed on Reproductive management in dairy animals and gave a lecture on Pig rearing as a secondary source of income, Dr. Susitha Rajkumar conferred on Important diseases of poultry and goats, and their management, Dr. Gopal R. Mahajan delivered on the design and functioning of biogas plants, coupled with insights into wastewater treatment plants and then Dr. A.R. Uthappa talked through Fodder production for livestock. The program also featured the streaming of success story highlighting watershed projects implemented by the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra.
