Exploratory Rumenotomy reveals more than 70kgs plastic material in a cow
Based on request from two Gaushalas One Shikeri Mayem and one at Qupem, ICAR –CCARI team comprising Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Dr. Sanjay Uddharwar, Dr. Shivsharanappa and Dr. Chetankumar performed the Exploratory Rumenotomy of stray cattle having history of impaction anorexia and timpani. After examination impaction of rumen was observed and exploratory rumeonotomy of these animals was performed.
In a cow at Shikeri Mayem Gaushala maintained by Bharat Swabhiman nondegredable material weighing 71 Kgs was found and in another bull at Quepem 40 kgs nondigestable material was found and removed successfully. These material, contained mostly plastic bags, nylon ropes, electrical wires leather footwear etc. These huge amount of nondegredable material was observed in the rumen of these animals as result of plastic garbage thrown on streets nonresponsive manner. ICAR CCARI team appeals not to throw any plastic bags along with materials like vegetable waste etc to save environment and life of livestock.
