ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized a Training-cum-Distribution under AICRP on Pig (NEH head) in collaboration with C.V.Sc & A.H, R.K. Nagar, West Tripura
ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized a three days Training-cum-Demonstration and Distribution on “Scientific Pig Farming” under the AICRP on Pig (NEH head) during 23-25 October, 2024 in collaboration with College of Veterinary Sciences & A.H., R.K. Nagar, West Tripura. A total of 28 participants (23 male and 5 female) from three Gram Panchayats of Old Agartala R.D. Block attended. In the inaugural address, Dr. N. K. Chanchal, Director, DARD, Tripura encouraged the participants to adopt pig breeding practice for multiplication and a sustainable farming livelihood improvement. Dr Purabi Barman, Principal, C.V.Sc & A.H., West Tripura briefed the participants about the commercial piggery farming and health care measures to be followed to avoid onset of emerging diseases in the flock. Dr Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Scientist and P.I of AICRP on pig, ICAR-CCARI, Goa highlighted about different aspects of scientific pig farming that can be profitable to farmers by adopting the low-cost rearing practices. Two booklets on scientific pig farming both in English and Bengali language were released. Various lectures were delivered on breeds of pig and breeding practices, management of new-born piglets, housing, feeding, stress management, disease prevention, integrated fish-cum-pig farming, pork processing and marketing by the faculties of the institute. Practical demonstrations were given on farm operation, semen collection, oestrous detection and artificial insemination. At the end of the training program piglets (56 nos.), pig feed (2800 kg), mineral mixture and medicine supplements, booklets on scientific pig farming were distributed to all the farmer beneficiaries. Distribution program was graced by Sri Ratan Chakraborty, Hon’ble MLA, Khayerpur Constituency, Tripura and Smt. Jharna Rani Das, Chairperson Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti, Tripura. The training program was coordinated by Dr. Amiya Ranjan Sahu (Scientist, ICAR-CCARI, Goa) and Dr. Jowel Debnath (Assistant Professor, C.V.Sc & A.H., R.K. Nagar, West Tripura), and Co-coordinated by Dr Bikash Chandra Debnath (Associate professor) and Dr Bijoy Kumar Sarkar (Asst. Professor), C.V.Sc & A.H., R. K. Nagar, West Tripura.
