ICAR-CCARI organized an awareness-cum demonstration programme under SCSP at Kerala

    An awareness-cum-demonstration programme on ornamental fish culture was organized on August 17, 2024, at College of Fisheries (CoF), Payyannur in association with KUFOS, regional centre, Kannur and Department of Fisheries, Kannur district, Kerala under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan, Govt. of India. A total of 8 beneficiaries (4 women) from Payyannur participated in the program. Students and faculty of the college were also participated in the programme. Smt. Thambayi, promoter (aquaculture), department of fisheries, Kannur co-ordinated the farmers. Dr Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist (FRM), ICAR-CCARI briefed the farmers about the research and development activities of the institute for improving income and livelihood of the coastal farmers. Further, the operation of the backyard ornamental fish tanks was demonstrated to the farmers, which would be useful to generate additional income for them. Dr Dona P, Assistant Professor, CoF, Payyannur assured all support and technical guidance to the farmers for these activities. Smt. Nandana US and Smt. Asha Gopan (Assistant professors of CoF Payyannur) shared operational guidelines for water quality management and disease management in ornamental fish culture. Farmers expressed their interest to take up these activities under the guidance from ICAR-CCARI, Goa and CoF, Payyannur. They also highlighted that support for farming of vegetables, goat, poultry and duck also will be useful to improve their farm income.
