Training Program on Nutrition Garden

A state level two days training program was organized on Nutrition Garden for Officers of Directorate of Women & Child Development, Govt. of Goa from 9th to 10th Nov, 2020.

During Inaugural session on 9th Nov, 2020 Mrs. Deepali Naik, Director, Directorate of Women & Child Development, Govt. of Goa was Chief Guest. In her remarks she emphasized the need of establishment of Nutrition Garden at anganwadi centres and informed that 180 anganwadi centres will be provided with Nutrition Unit. Dr. E B Chakurkar, Director, ICAR – CCARI, Old Goa in his address mentioned that it is a multi ministerial convergence mission with a vision to address malnutrition in a targeted approach by 2022 for which institute will provide all the technical know- how as and when required by the department.

Dr. B L Kasinath, Head, KVK explained about the importance of Nutrition Garden to the participants and also asked the officers to establish this unit at the earliest to augment nutritional level in the beneficiaries and make available pesticides free vegetables & fruits. He also stressed the importance of vegetable in our daily diet.

Mrs. Sunetra Talaulikar, SMS (Home Science) coordinated the program and explained the importance of Nutri thali and Nutrition Garden to reduce malnutrition in children. Shri. H R C Prabhu, SMS (Plant Protection) welcomed the guests and participants for the program

The training program included all the topics like Layout of Nutrition Garden, important Vegetables and Fruit Cultivation, Soil Testing & Nutrient Management, Pest & Disease Management in Vegetables, Importance of Poultry Keeping, Importance of Balance Diet for pregnant, lactating mothers and children and Organic Farming Practices for Nutrition Garden. Field visit was arranged for the participants in Model Nutrition Garden at KVK Campus.
