Visit of Dr. T. R. Sharma, Project Director, National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology

Dr. T. R. Sharma, Project Director, National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology, has visited the institute on 27th September 2015 to review the progress of work done under ICAR-NPTC funded project-subproject: Genetic Mapping of Salinity Tolerant Genes in Rice.  He visited the experiment on screening of rice germplasm for tolerance to salinity stress at seedlings stage under salinity tank.  He praised the facility created for screening rice germplasm and appreciated the performance of Korgut and its selections under salinity stress condition.  He also suggested to use one of the wild rice which has scored 1 as per SES score to use in the breeding program.  He then visited institute field to see the different breeding materials developed under this project.  Later, he visited, institute salinity trials which are taken up in farmers’ field at chorao island.  He appreciated the site selection for undertaking salinity trials.  He monitored the trial on F6 generation recombinant inbred lines derived from Jyothi X Korgut and suggested for taking up the phenotyping for maximum possible characters.  Dr. N. P. Singh, Director, was also present during his visit.   Dr. Manohara, K. K., Scientist plant breeding and Principal Investigator of the ICAR-NPTC briefed Dr. T. R. Sharma regarding the various activity of the project.
