ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, ICAR-CCARI, Goa Conducted Training on ‘Scientific Management of Backyard Poultry’ at Mayem Village under TDC-NICRA

    The ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa, conducted an off-campus training on "Scientific Management of Backyard Poultry" under the Technology Demonstration Component (TDC) of the National Innovations on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project at Mayem village on 12th December 2024. Dr. Udharwar, S. V., SMS (Animal Science) and Head of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, provided an in-depth explanation on the scientific principles of poultry management, focusing on optimal housing, nutritional feeding strategies, and comprehensive healthcare practices for backyard poultry. He also discussed the formulation of balanced, nutrient-dense poultry feed to enhance growth, egg production, and overall health. Additionally, he highlighted key healthcare management practices, including vaccination schedules and disease preventive measures. Mr. Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), provided a comprehensive explanation on the effective management of poultry manure, emphasizing its role as a rich source of organic matter and essential nutrients. He elaborated on how poultry manure can be utilized as a natural fertilizer, enhancing soil fertility and promoting the growth of organic vegetables. A total of 15 farmers (6 males and 9 females) attended the training session. Dr. Udharwar S.V., and Mr. Rahul Kumar coordinated the program.
