National Symposium on Climate Smart Agriculture for Nematode Management was inaugurated on 11th January, 2017 at ICAR-CCARI, Goa

National Symposium on Climate Smart Agriculture for Nematode Management was inaugurated on 11th January, 2017 at ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Ela, Old Goa. The Symposium was organized by Nematological Society of India (NSI), New Delhi in collaboration with ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (IARI), New Delhi.

During the inaugural session, Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh, presently Director at National Institute of Abiotic Stress Management, Baramati, Maharashtra was the Chief Guest. Dr. Akhtar Haseeb, Vice Chancellor, NDUAT, FAIZABAD who is also President of Nematological Society of India (NSI) presided over the function. Dr. Pankaj, Principal Scientist and Secretary, NSI and National Organizing Secretary of the symposium spoke about the genesis of the symposium. Dr.E.B.Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa welcomed the dignitaries and delegates and spoke about the history of ICAR-CCARI, Goa. Dr.M.Thangam, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, the Local Organizing Secretary of the symposium proposed vote of thanks.

During the inaugural session, Prof. D’ Souza memorial lecture award was presented to Dr. K S Varaprasad, Former Director, Indian Institute of Oilseed Research, Hyderabad followed by felicitation to former presidents of NSI, viz., Dr. PK Koshy, Dr. JS Gill, Dr HS Gaur, Dr. DJ Patel, Dr. RV Singh, Dr. SC Dhawan, and Dr. AK Ganguly

During the session, Dr. N.P.Singh, Chief Guest released the Book of Abstracts and Souvenir of the symposium as well as Mobile app “Nematode Info” developed by Dr. Pankaj, Harender Kumar and Anjani Kumar. Dr. Akhtar Haseeb, President of NSI released the Constitution and By-law of NSI and he narrated the genesis of NSI and Nematology as a discipline in the Indian Context. The inaugural session was moderated by Dr.Anil Sirohi, Principal Scientist, Div. of Nematology, IARI, New Delhi.

More than 100 participants from all over the country are participating in the national symposium and presentations are planned under lead lecture, oral as well as poster presentations during the symposium.
