Visit of Shri. Parshottam Rupala, Honourable Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to the Institute

        Shri. Parshottam Rupala, Honourable Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, visited ICAR - Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Old Goa on 4th October 2016. The purpose of the visit was to review the research activities undertaken by the ICAR-CCARI, activities and different schemes for farmers by Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Goa. Shri. Vineet Verma, Director, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India, Shri. B. R. Singh, Secretary (Agriculture), Govt. of Goa, Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa, Shri. Ulhas Pai Kakode, Director, Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Goa, officials and staff of ICAR CCARI and Department of Agriculture were present during the visit. An interactive meeting was organized at the Institute. Dr. E.B. Chakurkar presented the research activities undertaken and other information of the Institute.

        Shri. Parshottam Rupala and other dignitaries applauded the research work accomplished by the Insitutute. Shri. Chintamani Perni, Assistant Director, Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Goa presented activities and schemes being implemented for the benefit of farmers. Honourable minister and other dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the Department and also congratulated for receiving the national level award ‘Krishi Karman Award 2014-15’.

        Shri. Parshottam Rupala stressed upon studying the impact of adoption of soil health cards to improve the crop yields and reduction in use of the fertilizers through advises on application of organic manures. He also suggested the Govt. of Goa and ICAR CCARI to link all the soil health cards with the Krishi Cards of the farmers. He appreciated the research and development on bio-agents for disease management and biofertilizers and stressed on its use to reduce the fertilizer and pesticide use wherever possible. He also stressed upon necessity of setting up of a biofertilizer production unit for State of Goa. On this occasion, the Institute Newsletter was released by the hands of Shri. Parshottam Rupala and Shri. Vineet Verma.

        The dignitaries visited the exhibition of technologies and publications arranged by different sections of the Institute. This was followed by a visit to experimental fields, different animal units and Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The minister complimented the infrastructure and the research facilities developed by the Institute. During his visit, he emphasized on creating awareness among farmers about the newly developed technologies by the Institute and its implementation in cluster of villages to demonstrate its impact.
