Visit of delegates from Michigan State University, USA to ICAR-CCARI, Goa
On 14th May, 2024 a team of delegates from Michigan State University (MSU) visited ICAR-CCARI, Goa as a part of United States Department of Agriculture-Scientific Exchange Program Fellowship (USDA-SEP). Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI welcomed the delegates and highlighted about the ongoing research activities at the institute. The team of delegates included Dr. Yadu Pokhrel (Mentor), Associate Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering, College of Engineering, MSU, Dr. Jiaguo Qi, Professor, Department of Geography, Environment and Spatial Sciences, College of Social Sciences, MSU and Dr. Steven G. Pueppke, Adjunct Professor, Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences, College of Social Sciences, MSU. On this occasion, an interaction meeting of delegates with the scientists of the institute was organized. Dr. Sujeet Desai, USDA-SEP fellow presented the brief outline about the institute’s mandate and ongoing research related to water resources and its management in the coastal region. He also highlighted the potential research areas related to water management in the coastal region under changing climate for possible collaborations between ICAR-CCARI and Michigan State University. Further, the delegates also delivered a brief presentation about the ongoing research and other activities at Michigan State University. Insightful interaction and discussions were held between the delegates and the scientists regarding the possible researchable issues for collaborations. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, highlighted about the possibility of long-term collaborations between MSU and ICAR-CCARI, visit of scientists to MSU for scientific exposure and interdisciplinary research related to Food-Water-Energy nexus for sustainability in the coastal region. Dr. Sujeet Desai coordinated the interaction meeting and proposed the vote of thanks at the end of the meeting. The delegates also visited the eco-friendly waste water treatment facility (Jalopchar) and Biogas unit of the institute. Field visit was coordinated by Dr. Sujeet Desai and Dr. Gopal Mahajan.
