ICAR-CCARI organized technical seminar on ‘Recent advances in mango production, processing and marketing opportunities’

        As a 12^th programme under ‘Bharat Ka Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the  technical Seminar on ‘Recent advances in mango production, processing and marketing opportunities’ was organized at ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa on 5^th October, 2021. This programme was  jointly  organized with  Goa State Council for Science & Technology (GSCS &T) catalyzed and supported by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development(NABARD) under Gramya Vikas Nidhi. The major focus of the programme was to give impetus for seeking Geographical indication (GI) registration for ‘Mankurad’ mango. The prgramme started with welcoming the Chief Guest, Dr. Tariq Thomas, IAS, Secretary, DST& WM, Govt. of Goa, other dignitaries and the participants. In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, appreciated the efforts initiated for successfully getting GI registration of ‘Mankurad’ mango. Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa gave his remarks about mango production and importance of Geographical indication of ‘Mankurad’ mango for the state of Goa. Smt. Usha Ramesh, General Manager, NABARD, Regional Office, Goa; Mr. Sanjeev Mayenkar, Dy. Director of Agriculture, Govt. of Goa and Mr Sanjeev Joglekar, OSD to DST & WM, Govt. Goa also gave their remarks highlighting the need for GI registration for Goa mangoes.  Mr. Deepak Parab, Project Scientist (Environment), GSCS & T, Govt. Goa proposed vote of thanks besides appraising the mango growers about the benefits of GI registration.

    The whole programme including the technical session was conducted in hybrid mode.  Forty five mango farmers registered for the programme, besides participation of officials from GSCS &T and agriculture department and staff of ICAR-CCARI, KVK- North Goa. Dr. A.R. Desai, Pr. Scientist (Fruit Science), ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa, Dr. Maneesha S.R, Scientist (Fruit Science), Dr. Kiran Malshe, Associate Professor, DBSKKV, Dapoli, Mr. HRC. Prabhu, Programme Co-ordinator, KVK, North Goa, Mr. Dhiraj Parab, Assistant Agricultural Officer, ZAO, Pernem, Dr. Mangal Kadam,  Associate Professor, RFRS (DBSKKV, Dapoli), Vengurla and Dr. Shripad Bhat, Scientist (Agri. Economics), ICAR-CCARI, Goa gave lectures on different aspects of  mango production, processing and marketing. In the open discussion and interactive session, importance of GI registration of ‘Mankurad ‘mango was discussed and debated in length and ‘Mango growers association’ was formed.  Twelve mango farmers from each Taluka of Goa were selected as founder members of the association. Dr. Shivasharanappa, N. Senior Scientist (Vet. Pathology) & Coordinator of ‘Bharat Ka Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, ICAR-CCARI proposed vote of thanks at the end of the technical session.
