Mahila Kisan Divas commemorated by ICAR-KVK, North Goa
ICAR CCARI-KVK North Goa commemorated 'Mahila Kisan Divas' in Ambade - Nagargao village, Sattari taluka, on 15.10.2024. Ms. Urmila Gavas, Sarpanch of Nagargao village panchayat, served as the chief guest. She summarized the role of farm women in the Indian agricultural economy and the conservation of coastal agro-ecosystems. She urged the participants to implement contemporary agricultural practices to alleviate the burdens faced by women in agricultural tasks. Additionally, Ms Sandhya Khadilkar, former Sarpanch, shared her insights on this occasion.
Dr N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head, enlighten the significant contributions of women farmers and their accomplishments in enhancing the well-being of their families. They are involved in farming, animal husbandry, rural entrepreneurship, post-harvest operations, fishing, and agricultural labour, thereby ensuring the country's stability, progress, and long-term development. He emphasized that the feminization of the agricultural sector is on the rising day by day. Dr Devidas Kotkar, Headmaster of Govt High School, Ambede Nagargao, commended the initiatives undertaken by ICAR KVK to promote awareness of traditional recipes that are healthier than the so-called 'junk food.' During the event, 57 millet recipes were presented to the participants, and a drawing and debate competition was also organized for the farmwomen. The finest recipes were curated and awarded first, second, and third prizes to Ms Savitri Mausekar, Ms Snehal Barve, and Ms Manasi Marathe. Sixty-two farmwomen participated and benefited. Mr Rahul Kulkarni, Dr N. Bommayasamy, Dr Udharwar S.V., and Mr Rahul Kumar coordinated the program.
