Secondary livelihood opportunities through fishery resources

 

 A three days training programme on “Secondary livelihood opportunities through fishery resources” sponsored by National Fisheries Development Board was organised by the fisheries section of ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI) on 19th to 21st March, 2015. The three days training programme has covered technical sessions from scientific experts of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) and ICAR-CCARI.  A total of twenty eight farmers and entrepreneurs from different parts of North and South Goa have participated in the programme. Mrs. Manju Lekshmi N., Scientist (Fisheries Resource Management) have co-ordinated the three days event. Prof. (Dr.) Narendra Pratap Singh, Director, ICAR-CCARI has welcomed the experts and participants during the inaugural session.  He has also mentioned about the importance of mariculture and ornamental fish culture in Goa during his address. The training has given emphasis on mussel culture, ornamental fish breeding and culture, fish health management, aquarium construction and management, live feed culture, feed formulation techniques and indigenous freshwater ornamental fishes of Goa. Dr. Madhu, K., Principal Scientist, Dr. Santhosh, B., Principal Scientist and Dr. Geetha Sasikumar, Senior Scientist, Sonali (for Dr. K. K.Philipose, SIC Karwar CMFRI) were the scientific experts from ICAR-CMFRI for the training sessions. There were also practical sessions on aquarium fabrication and hatchery management. The training ended with recommendations for the growth of coastal aquaculture and ornamental fisheries sector in Goa.
