ICAR-CCARI Hosts Interaction Meeting with Dr. Lisa Tiemann, MSU, USA

On January 16, 2025, ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa, organized an engaging interaction meeting with Dr. Lisa Tiemann, Associate Professor at the Department of Plant, Soil, and Microbial Sciences, Michigan State University (MSU), USA. The program commenced with a warm welcome, an introduction of Dr. Tiemann, and her felicitation by the Director. Attended by 25 participants, including scientists, Subject Matter Specialists, technical officers, and research staff, the event provided a platform for knowledge exchange. The meeting featured presentations on ICAR-CCARI’s achievements in natural resource management and soil research, along with Dr. Tiemann's insights into soil biology and its role in enhancing sustainability, particularly in the nitrogen cycle. Discussions focused on potential collaborative research areas, including microbial applications in natural farming, improving phosphorus use efficiency, green manuring, biochar amendments, and innovative approaches for soil health enrichment. Dr. Tiemann visited various research and innovation units at ICAR-CCARI, including the Livestock Waste Valorization System (LWVS), Jalopchar Unit, and Vermicomposting Unit, which highlighted the institute's sustainable agriculture initiatives. A field visit to Khazan lands, part of a NABARD-funded project, provided insights into improving soil health through microbial enrichment and green manuring, emphasizing the site's potential to drive policy action for reviving these unique ecosystems.

This event, coordinated by Dr. Gopal Ramdas Mahajan and Dr. Sujeet Desai, with technical support from Shri Siddharth Marathe and Smt. Pranjali Wadekar, exemplified the institute's commitment to fostering global partnerships for advancing sustainable agriculture. It underscored ICAR-CCARI’s dedication to leveraging expertise for addressing soil health challenges and enhancing agricultural resilience.
