ICAR-CCARI and ICAR-KVK, North Goa Celebrated Kisan Diwas

    ICAR-CCARI and ICAR-KVK, North Goa, celebrated Kisan Diwas on December 23, 2024, to recognize and honoring the contribution of farmers to the agricultural sector. The event was participated by 48 farmers, including 32 men and 16 women, who gathered to engage in insightful discussions and technical sessions. The Director of ICAR-CCARI, Dr. Parveen Kumar, was the Chief Guest of the function. He emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture in India’s economy and how the nation has now become self-sufficient in the production of various agricultural produce. He also urged the younger generation to consider agriculture as a profitable and sustainable business option.

    During the event, 13 progressive farmers were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries. The honorees included: Mr. Ramesh Gurav, Mr. Shekhar Parastekar, Mr. Ravlu Parab, Ms. Deepashree Malkar, Ms. Madhavi Gawas, Mr. Krishna Gaonkar, Mr. Myren Anes, Mr. Rudie Alvares, Mr. Sakharam Kalangutkar, Mr. Anil Mahale, Ms. Pobrinha Carvalho, Mr. Clement Vales, Mr. Mario Costa. Dr. Udharwar Sanjay Kumar Vithalrao, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) and In-charge at ICAR-KVK, North Goa, welcomed the gathering. He urged the farmers to adopt a livestock-based farming system as a means to secure a supplementary and steady income. He emphasized the significant economic potential of utilizing traditional farming resources and highlighted how integrating livestock with crop production could lead to enhanced farm profitability. Mr. Rahul Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), proposed the vote of thanks and also led another session focusing on the importance of vermicompost as a soil amendment for organic farming. Additionally, Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, ACTO (Soil Science), delivered task on "Soil, Seed, and Sustainability: The Art of Natural Farming," highlighting the significance of sustainable practices in farming.

        The celebration of Kisan Diwas not only honored the hard work of farmers but also served as an excellent platform to discuss key agricultural practices and innovations that can enhance the productivity and sustainability of farming in the region. The event was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar S.V., Mr. Rahul Kumar, Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati.
