Livelihood Action Plan (LAP) Training cum Orientation program for SHG’s in Keri Panchayat at Ponda watershed (under PMKSY 2.0)

Self Help Groups (SHG’s) are considered as a strategic model that helps generate rural empowerment to eradicate socio-economic poverty from rural society in India. SHG's are a revolution in the process of development and the government has significantly encouraged these groups and endowed them with revolving funds and matching grants through various schemes. Self Help Groups are need based, community driven, developmental micro-units that help to improve the status and quality of life of the rural poor, by creating village-based low-cost enterprise. The intervention of government in the initiation and formulation of SHG’s and their programs is generic and offers a wide range of activities that can be taken up by these groups.

As a part of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana – Watershed Development Component 2.0 project, ICAR-CCARI conducted a Livelihood Action Plan (LAP) training for SHG’s in Keri village on 18/10/2023, with the TSP providing the logistic support and anchoring the program. Around 26 SHG’s consisting of 110 women were part of this training program and this activity was focused on:

  • Identifying different categories of self-help groups at the village level,

  • Learning the aims, objectives and nature of functioning of each type of self-help group,

  • Identifying the SHG’s with respect to their collective development activities / programs.

  • Dissipation of information regarding revolving fund, technical assistance to the SHG members.

  • Submission of business proposals.
