Interface Meet on “AnGR of Goa State: A Mission towards Zero Non-Descript AnGR of India” organized

The ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, Haryana organized an Interface Meet on “Animal Genetic Resources (AnGR) of Goa State” in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa on 7th June, 2024. The meet was organized under the “Mission towards Zero Non-Descript AnGR of India”. Dr. Pradip V. Sarmokadam, Member Secretary, GSBB, Goa was the Chief Guest of the event. In his address, Dr Pradip V. Sarmokadam appreciated the efforts and achievements of ICAR-CCARI, Goa in characterization and conservation of indigenous animal germplasms. He also emphasized on the significance of conserving livestock biodiversity and urgent need to link conservation efforts with livelihood of the farmers.

Welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa highlighted about rich livestock biodiversity of Goa state and adjoining Konkan region. He also stressed upon the need for efforts on conservation and sustainable utilization of native animal genetic resources. Dr. B.P. Mishra, Director, ICAR-NBAGR, Karnal, in his introductory address, outlined the priorities and strategies of the Bureau for managing the native AnGR under the Mission towards Zero Non-Descript AnGR in the country. Dr Satpal Dixit, Head, Division of AG, ICAR-NBAGR talked about the importance of phenotypic and genetic characterization of animal resources.

Technical session comprised of different lectures on status of animal genetic resources of Goa, strategies for survey and characterization, genetic mapping, trait characterization and role of AnGR in eco-system services. Lectures were followed by panel discussion and deliberation. A technical bulletin on ‘Animal Genetic Resources of Goa’ was also released on the occasion. About 50 participants from ICAR, Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Govt. of Goa, Goa State Biodiversity Board and progressive farmers participated in the Meet. The meet was coordinated by Dr. Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Dr. Shirish Narnaware, Dr. Gokuldas P.P and Dr Sanjaykumar Udharwar.
