Interface meeting with Developmental Departments
The interface meeting between ICAR and Directorate of Agriculture, Directorate of AH and VS and Directorate of Fishery, Govt. of Goa was held on 20.06.14 at ICAR Research Complex for Goa, Old Goa. Prof Narendra Pratap Singh, Director, ICAR Research Complex for Goa was the Chairman, Shri P Tufani, Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Govt of Goa was the Chief Guest, Dr U V Pednekar, Asst Director, Directorate of AH and VS, Govt. of Goa and Mr. Hrishikesh Pawar, Superintendent, Directorate of Fisheries, Govt. of Goa were the guest of honour. Around 30 officials from Directorate of Agriculture, Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Service, Directorate of Fisheries, Govt. of Goa, Goa Dairy, Curti, Ponda and TERI, Bambolim and 25 officials from ICAR Research Complex for Goa attended the meeting.
Prof. Narendra Pratap Singh, in his introductory remark emphasized that due to prediction of irregular monsoon forecast, the organizing of interface meeting is very important for finalizing contingency plans for the state of Goa. He also laid emphasis on developing Goa as an educational hub including starting an agriculture college or university in the state of Goa and for small farmers, primary processing and value addition will fetch premium price in the tourism based market like Goa. Shri. P. Tufani, Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Govt. of Goa in his address to the officials elaborated the problem faced in the important crops/areas of agriculture in Goa viz., Mango, Kokum, Spices, Nutmeg, Protected cultivation and requested the scientists of ICAR RC for scientific solutions and to develop suitable technology.
Dr. U. V. Pednekar, Asst. Director, Directorate of A.H. and V.S., Govt. of Goa in his address told that mastitis, infertility in dairy cattle and shortage of green fodder for the animals are main constraints in Animal Husbandry sector. Cattle purchased under Kamdhenu scheme of Govt of Goa from neighboring state are unable to acclimatize in high humid condition of Goa and hence milk yield is reduced. He also requested the scientists to develop technologies for boosting milk production in Goa. Mr. Hrishikesh Pawar, Superintendent, Directorate of Fisheries, Govt. of Goa informed that there is lot of scope for ornamental fish in Goa. However, there are several problems for fishermen like inadequate supply of seeds for Indian Major Carps, Cobia and Seabass.
After the inaugural session, in-charges of different section from ICAR – RC for Goa presented the salient research achievements in the past one year followed by discussion on the same. Later, agenda points for the interface meeting as well as last interface meeting were discussed at length and minutes were finalized with time frame. Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh in his closing remarks emphasized the need for having more interactions in the coming years and proposed the idea of having four meeting in a year for better co-ordination and follow up. Dr. S. K. Das, Principal Scientist (LPM) co-ordinated the Interface meeting and proposed vote of thanks.
