ICAR- CCARI, Goa participated in India Climate and Development Partners Meet-2024

 

    ICAR- Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute participated in India Climate and Development Partners Meet-2024 jointly organized by Government of Goa and World Bank held during 20-21 February, 2024 at Panaji, Goa. On Tuesday, the Government of Goa made an official announcement on the development of a blended financing facility in collaboration with the World Bank, first of its kind in India. This facility will empower the coastal state to obtain and mobilize concessional financing for the purpose of executing climate-resilient and low-carbon investments. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural function and his inaugural remarks he stated that "Resilience is an essential component of our vision for a balanced Goa, which reconciles our aspirations for the development and well-being of our people with the health of our ecosystems and the economy". He further emphasized that, through blended financing facilities, agro-techniques like integrated farming systems, salt tolerant crop varieties and sustainable agro-ecotourism can be promoted for building coastal resilience through multi-sectoral approach. Shri Aleixo Sequeira, Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Govt. of Goa stressed upon biodiversity and natural resource conservation, carbon sequestration, reducing GHG emissions, diversified cropping and indigenous traditional knowledge for climate change adaptations and achieving sustainable development goals. Policymakers, financial institutions, business representatives, and community members had gathered at the meet to deliberate on potential avenues for utilizing finance to support adaptation efforts, replicating effective climate solutions initiated by the government, and integrating climate considerations into budgets and investments. From ICAR-CCARI, Goa Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, Dr. Gopal Mahajan, Senior Scientist (Soil Science), Dr. Uthappa, A.R. Scientist (Agroforestry) and Dr. Bappa Das, Scientist (Agricultural Meteorology) attended this meet and actively participated in the scientific deliberation. More than 200 delegates from India and abroad participated in this meeting.
